Q: What is the time commitment for your lesson contract? What is your cancellation policy?

A: Miss Hall offers five-month, summer session, and twelve-month contracts for private lesson students. In the event that the student is no longer able to/interested in taking lessons, they must give Miss Hall two weeks' notice of cancellation. If the notice is given at the beginning of the last month of lessons, the full month's balance is expected to be paid in full. If notice is given in the middle of the month, only the balance for the remaining lessons is due.

Q: How much will lessons cost?

A: Hour long lessons will be given at the rate of $50. Half hour long lessons will be given at the rate of $25. Any other durations will be prorated based on the hourly rate of $50.

Q: How often should I take lessons? How long should my lesson be?

A: Miss Hall recommends that beginning students should take regular, weekly lessons for 30 or 45 minutes. 45 minute lessons will be prorated as indicated above. 60 minute lessons are available for students who have been playing for one year or more.

Q: Why do I need to sign a contract?

A: The contract for Miss Hall's Studio acts as a handbook for students and parents, outlining the financial, attendance, and lesson policies. Signing of the contract indicates that both the parent and the student understand Miss Hall's expectations and will adhere to them for the duration of lessons.

Q: What supplies do I need to bring to lessons?

A: Students should bring a pencil, metronome/tuner, their music assigned by their band directors and/or Miss Hall, their instrument, and their Lesson Binder every week. The Lesson Binder will be constructed together with Miss Hall throughout the duration of the flute lesson contract.

Q: What can I expect to work on in lessons?

A: Topics of coverage will vary from student to student based on their skill level, individual goals, and specific needs. Overall, Miss Hall will assign scales, breathing and vibrato exercises, rhythm recognition and steady pulse, tone development, band repertoire, solo repertoire, embouchure flexibility, and articulation. These concepts are important building blocks to becoming a great musician and a great flutist.
